Description
This original watercolour developed around the development of a woodland stream in winter. And, what, I ask, is a stream without white birch trees?? This is a Laurelland composite of winter walks into my Pepere’s woods in New England winters of days long past to gather virgin snow for “la tire au neige”. We trudged upstream of his brook into the deeper mixed treed wood to fill the enameled washbasin as Memere boiled the maple syrup to the right temperature.
What a chewy treat!! Red cheeked bliss pulling clear maple taffy from the snow and twirling to keep some ice crystals within for cool crunch to the warm taffy! Oh yes...life was so uncomplicated on Saturdays!
